Natl. Lead Poisoning Prevention Week: Tues. Oct. 24: Larry Brooks, Dir. ACHHD Lead Poisoning Prevention

Larry Brooks, Director, Alameda County Healthy Homes Division Lead Poisoning Prevention

Larry Brooks will describe the roll Alameda County Healthy Homes Division of Lead Poisoning Prevention plays in Oakland and 13 other cities in Alameda County.

He'll share some of the history of ACHHD and how the People United for a Better Life In Oakland (PUEBLO) group rallied to file a class action law suit that lead to the formation of his office and how his office receives funds for lead abatement to support children and families affected by lead poisoning in Alameda County today.

While describing where the agency started in 1987, he'll also share regional developments that have surfaced since Reuters broke the story of lead poisoning in Fruitvale being 4 xs worse than Flint, MI in Dec. 2016, along with what he thinks it will take to finally end the legacy of lead poisoning in our cities and neighborhoods.

Q/A from audience about lead poisoning in Oakland, solutions, strategies, and ideas for action to bring an end to lead poisoning.
